How to check a MINI's service history
MINI is part of the BMW Group, and most MINIs from around 2009 onwards have a digital service history held against the VIN rather than a stamped paper book. You can read that record in three places:
- In the car: free, a summary of services
- MINI retailer: free, usually for the keeper
- Online by VIN: £19 report, no car or V5C needed
- Works for MINI Hatch, Clubman, Countryman and more
Easier than ever
Checking a car’s records? Just type the VIN.
We have made it easier than ever to look up a BMW or MINI. Type the VIN into the search box at the top of this page and we will show what is available for that car before you order anything.

Report by email
After payment, the report is sent to your email as a secure link.
The report lists dealer service entries, repairs, key reads and the mileage recorded at each visit (in km), plus the factory equipment. It is based on manufacturer dealer network records, so work done elsewhere may not appear.
In the car and at a MINI retailer
If you can sit in the MINI, the service screens in the car's menu show the upcoming service requirements and, on most models, a summary of recorded services. The menu labels differ between generations, so look for the vehicle information or vehicle status screens.
A MINI retailer can usually look up the full record on the manufacturer's system. Take the VIN or registration and the V5C logbook, as retailers generally share the record with the registered keeper rather than with a prospective buyer.
What to look for before buying a used MINI
- Mileage rises consistently between entries
- No long gaps in time or distance
- Time-based items are not overdue
- The same repair does not keep coming back
- Latest recorded mileage fits the odometer
- The VIN matches the car and the V5C
Our report shows mileage in km, so convert before comparing with a UK odometer in miles (1 mile is about 1.61 km). You can also compare the figures with the MOT mileage on the GOV.UK MOT history service. If the record shows a gap, ask for the invoices from that period: many independent garages cannot add entries to the manufacturer record. For more on how the record works, see BMW digital service history explained, which applies to MINI too.
MINI service history FAQ
Can I check MINI service history online?
Yes. Enter the full VIN or the last 7 characters above. The free check identifies the MINI and shows how many dealer service entries were found; the full list with dates, mileage and work carried out is in the £19 report.
Is a MINI service history check free?
Owners can see a summary in the car and can usually ask a MINI retailer, both free. Online by VIN, identifying the car is free and the full dealer record is in the £19 report, which is useful when you are viewing a MINI you do not own yet.
Does MINI have digital service history?
Most MINIs from around 2009 onwards have a digital service record stored against the VIN instead of a stamped paper book, although the exact changeover varied by model and market. Older MINIs may only have a paper book and invoices.
What does the MINI service history report show?
Dealer service entries, repairs and key reads with the mileage recorded at each visit (in km), plus factory equipment and vehicle identification details. Content depends on the records available for each VIN.
Why is a service missing from the record?
Usually because the work was done by an independent garage that cannot add entries to the manufacturer record. Ask the seller for itemised invoices to fill any gaps.
Does the report include MOT, finance or write-off data?
No. It covers the dealer service, repair and key-read history only. For MOT results and recorded MOT mileage, use the official GOV.UK MOT history service.
