BMW sat nav update prices at a glance
These are the typical UK prices for updating an older BMW navigation system (CIC, NBT, NBT EVO, EntryNav, MGU). Dealer and third-party figures are what owners and sellers reported publicly in October 2026, so treat them as a guide.
| Route | Typical UK price | What you get |
|---|---|---|
| BMW retailer | About £79 to £120+ reported | Update done for you at the retailer, usually one map version |
| BMW ConnectedDrive Store | Shown after signing in | USB map update or a one-year over-the-air extension, where offered for your car |
| eBay sellers | About £35 to £45 listed | Varies: check the code is made for your VIN and who supports you |
| Independent specialists | About £30 to £80 | FSC code or file, sometimes with remote help |
| SatNavUpdate.co.uk | £39.99 or £59.99 | Maps, Lifetime FSC code or FSC file, PDF guide and UK support |
Our price depends only on the map family: £39.99 for PREMIUM, MOVE, MOTION, ROUTE and NEXT, and £59.99 for LIVE, WAY, JOY and EVO (ID4 and ID5/6). The VIN check shows yours before checkout.
Easier than ever
Which map does your BMW need? Just type your VIN.
We have made it easier than ever to find the right map and confirm it is compatible with your navigation unit. Type your VIN into the search box at the top of this page and we will show the unit your car was built with, the map it needs and the price. Checking is free.
Why the prices differ so much
Every route uses BMW map data. What you are really paying for is the FSC activation code that unlocks the new map for your VIN, plus whoever does the work. That is why prices vary so much:
- Retailer labour and time in the workshop
- One-off code vs Lifetime FSC code
- Typed code vs FSC file for newer units
- Whether anyone helps if the install fails
Newer units need an FSC file rather than a typed code (NBT EVO ID5/6, EntryNav2 and MGU), which is why LIVE, WAY, JOY and EVO cost a little more than the older map families.
Dealer vs DIY: which is better value?
A BMW retailer does the whole job for you, which suits owners who would rather not touch the car's software. You pay for the visit, and a retailer update usually covers one map version, so the next release costs again.
A DIY update means downloading the maps at home, copying them to a USB stick and running the update in the car, which takes some of your own time. In return it costs less, and with a Lifetime FSC code the next map versions are covered: when a new update is released, email us and we send it at no extra cost. Over a few years that is usually the bigger saving.
Hidden costs to watch for
The headline price is not always the full cost. Before you pay anyone, check these points:
- Is the code generated for your VIN?
- Which map family and version is it?
- Are the map files included or extra?
- Does the next map version cost again?
- Is there a UK contact if it fails?
- Does it rely on patching the head unit?
For a DIY update you also need a USB stick of the right size and format. Older units use FAT32, and newer ones such as NBT EVO ID5/6, EntryNav2 and MGU use exFAT. Our installation guide tells you exactly which your car needs.

BMW sat nav update cost FAQ
How much does a BMW sat nav update cost in the UK?
It depends on the route. UK owners report BMW retailer quotes from around £79 to £120 or more for older systems, while DIY USB updates with an FSC code typically cost £30 to £80. With us it is £39.99 for PREMIUM, MOVE, MOTION, ROUTE and NEXT maps, or £59.99 for LIVE, WAY, JOY and EVO.
Why does a BMW map update cost money?
Older BMW navigation systems only accept a new map when it is activated with an FSC code generated for the car. The map files are large but easy to find; the activation code is what you are paying for.
Is a dealer update better than a DIY update?
The maps are the same BMW map data. A retailer does the work for you, which some owners prefer, but you pay for the visit and usually for a single update. A DIY update takes some of your own time with a USB stick, and a Lifetime FSC code covers future versions too.
What else do I need for a DIY update?
A USB stick of the right size and format for your unit (our guide tells you which), a computer to download and copy the files, and some time with the car parked in a safe, open place. Everything else is included in the download.
Do I pay again for the next map version?
Not with a Lifetime FSC code from us. When a new map version is released, email us and we send it at no extra cost. A one-off code, such as a single map update bought for one version, has to be bought again.
Is a cheap eBay listing a good idea?
Some listings are fine and some are not. Check that the code is generated for your VIN, that the seller tells you which map and unit it is for, and that there is a UK contact if the update fails. Avoid listings that rely on patching the head unit software.
