Which sat nav does the G30 have?
The G30 5 Series arrived in 2017 with BMW's then-new NBT EVO navigation running iDrive 6. Around mid-2019 BMW moved it to the MGU unit with iDrive 7, which the 2020 facelift (LCI) kept. Cars with the simpler Business navigation have EntryNav2. So a G30 or G31 can have one of three units:

NBT EVO vs iDrive 7: what changed
NBT EVO brought touchscreen control to the 10.25 inch display and the tile-based iDrive 6 home screen. Its navigation uses the EVO maps, covering the whole of Europe in one package, activated with an FSC file for ID5/ID6 units.
MGU runs iDrive 7, paired with BMW Live Cockpit Professional, and supports over-the-air map updates while its free period lasts. It uses the LIVE maps, also activated with an FSC file. Once any free over-the-air period has ended, a USB update is the alternative to buying an extension from BMW.

Plug in the USB stick, wait for the update prompt and let it finish.
Unlike older BMWs, the G30 does not ask you to type a code: the car reads the FSC file from the USB stick. Don't rename the file. Keep the car parked in a safe, open place while the update runs. See BMW FSC code explained for the difference between codes and files.
Apple CarPlay in the G30
G30s with NBT EVO (iDrive 6) and Navigation Professional support CarPlay but many left the factory without it switched on. They can have it activated by USB from £49.99, with optional FullScreen and Video in Motion at £10 each. iDrive 7 cars normally have CarPlay built in. The older F10 5 Series cannot be activated, because CIC and NBT do not include CarPlay.

Can I update the sat nav on my BMW G30?
Yes. G30 and G31 cars can be updated from a USB stick with the latest map and an FSC file generated for your VIN. Cars with iDrive 7 may also still receive over-the-air map updates for a limited period from new; check the My BMW app.
Does my G30 have iDrive 6 or iDrive 7?
Earlier G30s, from 2017, have NBT EVO (iDrive 6). From around mid-2019 BMW moved the 5 Series to MGU (iDrive 7), and the 2020 facelift kept it. Build date matters more than registration date, so use the VIN check on this page for the exact answer.
Which map does a G30 need?
NBT EVO cars take the EVO maps, cars with Business navigation (EntryNav2) take the WAY maps, and iDrive 7 (MGU) cars take the LIVE maps. All three are activated with an FSC file rather than a typed code, and the update costs £59.99 with us.
Can I activate Apple CarPlay on a G30?
Yes, on G30s with NBT EVO (iDrive 6) and Navigation Professional: CarPlay can be activated by USB from £49.99, with FullScreen and Video in Motion at £10 each. iDrive 7 cars normally have CarPlay built in.
What USB stick do I need for a G30 map update?
