Your VIN tells us whether the X2 has NBT EVO or EntryNav2, and so which of the two map packages to order. Checking is free.
Which sat nav does the X2 F39 have?
The X2 F39 was built from about 2018 to 2023, and for map purposes it is one of the more straightforward BMWs of its time. The navigation option chosen when the car was ordered decides the unit, and there are only two to consider:
| Unit | Navigation | Map to order | Activation and USB |
|---|---|---|---|
| NBT EVO (ID5/ID6) | Navigation Professional | EVO, £59.99 | FSC file, exFAT stick |
| EntryNav2 (ENAVEVO) | Business navigation | WAY, £59.99 | FSC file, exFAT stick |
The production years above are approximate, and they do not change which row applies: an X2 from the first year and one from the last take the same package if they have the same navigation option. What a listing or invoice calls the navigation is not always reliable, so let the VIN check above confirm the unit before you order.
Easier than ever
Which map does your X2 need? Just type your VIN.
We have made it easier than ever to find the right map and confirm it is compatible with your navigation unit. Type your VIN into the search box at the top of this page and we will show the unit your car was built with, the map it needs and the price. Checking is free.
Telling the two X2 units apart
Many BMWs from this period changed navigation unit part-way through production, which is why their owners have to think about build dates. On the X2 F39 there is no such split to worry about. A Professional car has NBT EVO on ID5/ID6 software, a Business car has EntryNav2, which BMW also calls ENAVEVO, and both are activated the same way.
So the only question is which of the two your X2 has. Ordering EVO for an EntryNav2 car, or WAY for an NBT EVO car, will not work, because each package is made for its own unit.
- Navigation Professional: NBT EVO ID5/ID6
- Business navigation: EntryNav2 (ENAVEVO)
- NBT EVO takes EVO: FSC file, exFAT
- EntryNav2 takes WAY: FSC file, exFAT
Business vs Professional navigation in the X2 F39
On some models the navigation tier changes the price of a map update. On the X2 it does not: EVO for Professional and WAY for Business are both £59.99, each spans all of Europe, with no regional version to pick, and both are activated by an FSC file tied to the car’s VIN.
The tier still matters because it decides which package you need. Shopping for a second-hand X2? The detail worth pinning down is whether it has Professional or Business navigation, and the VIN check answers that from the car’s own data rather than the advert.
How to update the maps in your X2
Enter the VIN
The check tells you whether your X2 has NBT EVO or EntryNav2.
Order for £59.99
EVO for Professional or WAY for Business, the same price either way, with an installation guide.
Set up an exFAT stick
Format a USB stick as exFAT, then put the map data and your FSC file on it.
Let the car read the file
Plug in the stick and the X2 activates from the FSC file, with no code to type.
Because the FSC file belongs to your VIN, put it on the stick exactly where the guide says and leave its name as it is. Our Lifetime FSC code is only for units that take a typed code, so it does not apply to either X2 unit. Park the X2 in a safe place and leave it until the installation is complete before you drive. How these prices compare with other ways of updating is covered in BMW sat nav update cost in the UK.
Apple CarPlay in the X2 F39
Our USB CarPlay activation needs two things: NBT EVO ID5/ID6 with Navigation Professional, and a model that appears on our compatible list. A Professional X2 meets the first condition, but the X2 F39 is not among the listed models, so activation is not something we can promise for it.
Before you rely on CarPlay in an X2, check compatibility by VIN. The Apple CarPlay activation page sets out which models are listed and how the USB process works, and does my BMW have Apple CarPlay? helps you see what your car offers today.
The X2 and its sister car, the X1 F48
The X2 F39 is the coupé-styled sister of the X1 F48 and shares much of its electronics, so the two have similar navigation units. If there is an X1 in the family too, our X1 F48 guide is worth a read, but bear in mind that it deals with more variations, including units that take a typed code. For the X2 itself, the VIN check is the quickest way to the right package.
The X2 that replaced the F39, the U10, is not covered on this page.
BMW X2 F39 sat nav FAQ
Is the X2 F39 map update the same as the one for an X1 F48?
The two are close relatives and share much of their electronics, so their units are similar. The X1 guide, though, deals with more variations than the X2 needs, including units that take a typed code, whereas both X2 F39 units take an FSC file. Order on the strength of a VIN check on the X2 itself, not on what suited an X1.
Does the X2 M35i need a different map from other X2 models?
The M35i is part of the F39 range, so the same two possibilities apply: NBT EVO with Navigation Professional or EntryNav2 with Business navigation. The engine and badge do not decide the map; the navigation unit does, and the VIN check shows which one your M35i has.
Does Business navigation cost less to update than Professional in the X2?
No, both are £59.99. What differs is the package: a Business X2 with EntryNav2 (also called ENAVEVO) takes the WAY maps, and a Professional X2 with NBT EVO takes the EVO maps. Each covers Europe in one go, and neither installs on the other unit.
Will I have to type an FSC code into my X2, and is there a Lifetime FSC code?
There is nothing to type. Both X2 units are activated by an FSC file, generated for your VIN, which the car reads from the USB stick. Our Lifetime FSC code belongs only to units activated with a typed code, so it is not part of an X2 F39 order.
Can CarPlay be switched on in an X2 F39 by USB?
USB activation is limited to NBT EVO ID5/ID6 cars with Navigation Professional on the models in our compatible list, and the X2 F39 is not one of those models. Even a Professional X2 is therefore not something we can promise to activate. If CarPlay is important to you, check compatibility by VIN first.
